Data Acquisition Device (DAQ)

The DAQ collects analog data from the current and voltage sensors and converts them into a digital signal. The DAQ is supplied with power through an Ethernet cable (Power over Ethernet - PoE).

The QR-code (underneath the Ethernet port) is required later in the installation process for commissioning of the DAQ on the SAM4 database.

Switch

The switch connects several DAQs to the gateway via a single ethernet cable. At least one switch must be installed for each gateway.

The switch is powered via a direct connection with the power supply.

Gateway

The gateway collects the data from (max 10) DAQs, processes this data, and sends it to the Samotics platform through a mobile 4G signal, Wi-Fi, or wired internet connection. The gateway is connected to the switch through an ethernet cable.

Upon delivery, the gateway is already equipped with a bracket for placement on the DIN rail, and a SIM card in case 4G is chosen for the connectivity option.

Power supply

The power supply adapter powers the complete SAM4 system. The adapters are calculated at a maximum of 75% of the power (60 W). One adapter can power 3 gateways (15.4 W per gateway) or one gateway and two switches with 10 connected DAQs. The adapters are installed on a DIN rail. If there already is an adapter present in the system, it is possible to use this adapter.

Notice The unit is regarded as permanently installed and shall therefore be provided with a switch or circuit breaker that is marked as such and located near the equipment.

Current sensors

The current monitoring transformers are positioned per phase around the three single wires of the electric motor and connected to the DAQ. Five types of current sensors can be used in the system depending on the amperage of the motor and the diameter of the phase wires.

Warning Use only sensors with approved reinforced insulation from the hazardous mains conductor.

Notice The current sensors for <8A and <75A look the same. The amperage of the concerning current sensor is specified on the packaging and connector.

Notice The wiring requirements for the current sensors are: flammability V-1 or better, 2x cross-section between 0.75mm2 - 2.5mm2.

Feed-through terminal blocks (incl. fuse and end plate)

A fused test voltage can be easily branched using the 2-way fused terminal block with push-in technology. The terminal block has a swiveling fuse holder with a 2A fuse. The terminal blocks are mounted to a DIN rail. The end plate protects the inside of the terminal blocks, per three terminal blocks, one end plate is used.

Notice Also includes the fuse and end plate
Notice The wiring requirements for the voltage monitoring are: flammability V-1 or better, 600V, basic insulation, cross-section between 0.5mm2 - 2.5mm2

Notice The provided fuse complies with the following characteristics which a replacement fuse must also fulfil: fast fuse 2A nominal current, 690 rated voltage, 20kA minimum breaking capacity.

Ethernet cables

The SAM4 system is delivered with ethernet cables to connect DAQs to switches and switches to gateways. If these cables are too short or faulty, you can make new or longer ethernet cables yourself. For a tutorial adjusting ethernet cable length, click here.

Notice The SAM4 hardware is delivered with CAT. 6 ethernet cables (or higher)

Magnetic foot antenna

For 4G and Wi-Fi reception, you will need to use the supplied magnetic foot antenna(s). It has a 2.5-meter long wire and can therefore easily be installed outside the control cabinet for a strong and stable reception. An extension cable of 5 meters is available upon request.

SIM card M2M (optional)

In case 4G is chosen to connect to the internet, a SIM card is already installed in the gateway.
